Discover - Cazouls-d'Hérault

At first a ferry over the Hérault, as recalled by the "Lanau" path ("the boat" in Occitan). The Knights Templar founded their "Commanderie" here in the 13th c., probably the origin of the current settlement, and were succeeded by the Hospitallers of St John of Jersualem who sold part of the domain to Thimothée de Monchal. The co-seigneury lasted until the Revolution. Then the plain was given over to vines, the main resource of the village. Cazouls is noted for its dikes which protect it from flooding by the Hérault and give visitors a view over the plain.
